In this report we analyze the process of neck formation and propagation in uniaxial stretching of polyethylene terephthalate (PET) by use of the finite element method (FEM), and compare the numerical results with experimentally obtained features of PET films.
The following results were obtained.
(1) The experimental results coincided with the numerical ones. The numerical results agreed with the experimental ones for the load-displacement behavior, especially for the decrease of load just after the yield. The apparent constitutive law which represents the load-displacement behavior of PET film has been successfully obtained.
(2) It was confirmed that the decrease of load just after the yield related with the recovery of deformation in the unnecked region, by comparing the experimental results with numerical ones in the neck localization and propagation process.
