Generalization of Warpage for Anisotropic and Isotropic Parts

Warpage of an injection molded disk with isotropic and anisotropic material was studied with respect to warpage index (ψm, Ref.1) by using finite element analysis. ψm is proportional to the difference of total strain and thermal strain. ψm indicates the degree of restriction in thermal shrinkage in an injection molded part. In thermal stress analysis, ψm is generated by thermal load which is proportional to the product of linear thermal expansion coefficient and temperature difference. Thermal stress analysis and buckling analysis were conducted for injection molded disks with high density polyethylene (HDPE) and with nylon 66 (PA66) compounded either with rod mineral or particle mineral.
