Reactive processing is an effective technique for the modification of polymers. In this paper we describe the modification of the mechanical properties, the thermal stability and the chemical resistance of polyamides by crosslinking in the single screw extruder. This modification can also be performed by crosslinking between polyamide and polyester in the extruder. The crosslinking agents, diglycidyl terephthalate and diglycidyl isophthalate, were compounded with potassium carbonate anhydride used as a catalyst.
It was found that the extruded resins were improved in mechanical strength, heat resistance and chemical resistance.
